Falcon Wins Top Award

Sarah Stephenson of Thirsk Falcons Ladies has recently won the prestigious FA Football Workforce Award.Invited to attend the Awards evening at the York City’s pre-season friendly against Leeds United F.C., Sarah was presented with her Award on the turf at City’s home ground Kit Kat Crescent. Len Scott, Chairman of North Riding County FA awarded Sarah with a certificate and gift in recognition of her contribution made to grassroots football during the 2007/08 season.Instrumental in running the club since its establishment in 2003, Sarah has taken it upon herself to assume responsibility of a host of roles within the club. Committing to the positions of team manger, administrator, treasurer, coach and defender, Sarah has displayed enormous dedication and commitment to the club through extremely difficult times and continues to play a major role. Struggling for players and two seasons without a coach, Sarah has offered leadership and guidance without which Falcons could quite easily have folded. But, stronger than ever before, Thirsk Flacons Ladies now boasts a squad of almost thirty and has recently welcomed several new players from Ripon Panthers and Darlington Ladies. On her Award Sarah commented; “I was really pleased to received the award, there are a lot of people involved with the running of football leagues and clubs and what goes on behind the scenes is often not seen, so it is great that the FA are showcasing some of the work that is being done by a large number of people. I have gained enormously from the volunteering I have done and I would recommend anyone interested to get involved in any way they can”.Without the commitment and dedication of Sarah, the other Committee Members and enthusiasm shown by the players, the club would not be what it is today. Open to all clubs who have achieved the prestigious Charter Standard Award The Football Workforce Awards are designed to say a big “thank you” to the volunteers who keep football going week in and week out, and recognises the hard work and dedication of individuals who commit themselves so commendably.
