Falcons give Pannal a beating

Pannal Sports must hate their annual visit to The Flatts. Last season Falcons recorded their biggest league victory with a 13-0 demolition of the Harrogate side. Saturday saw the Falcons hit double figures yet again, against the side currently languishing at the bottom of the Harrogate Premier Division. The gulf between the two sides was evident straight from the off, with the home side 2-0 up after only twelve minutes. Adam Ryan struck the ball home after 1 minute, following a Mark Cobb corner. Cobb then saw his shot blocked but fellow strike partner Les Williams was on hand to follow up and slot the ball home. Pannal then however grabbed a goal back, ‘keeper Pierce failed to deal with an in-swinging comer and punched the ball into the roof of the net. The home side continued to press and it wasn’t long before they restored their two goal lead when Williams fired home from close range. Dan McCalmont then showed great skill in bringing down a Cobb cross before neatly tucking away Falcons fourth. Cobb then made it 5-1 four minutes before half time when he finished off a great move down the left and headed in Bruce Cree’s pin point cross. The second half was much the same with Falcons oozing class in every position as confidence soared. Pannal were simply spectators, unable to cope with the movement and breathtaking football displayed. Cobb raced down the left wing and crossed for Williams who slid in to make it 6-1, before some slick interchanges saw the lively James Robson grab Falcons seventh. Cobb made it eight before right back Chris Everingham got in on the act blasting home from twenty yards. Such is the strength of the Falcons side at the moment that their three subs Joe Barwick, Chris Padget and Gareth Barber all made their presence felt when they were introduced midway through the second half. Barber volleyed home a far post cross from Everingham and four minutes later Barwick out-jumped the Pannal defence to head home for number eleven. Barber’s trickery down the left flank then created another chance for Barwick but his shot cleared the upright. Then with a minute remaining Williams rounded the ‘keeper for his fourth of the game to complete the rout with the full time score 12-1.
