Fountains Abbey
The final three concerts for this year have been held in the cellarium. We were delighted with the concert from the Stamford Bridge Singers. On an extremely cold, wet and windy evening the Abbey was absolutely packed. Before leaving home we wondered “Should we?” or “Shouldn’t we?” What an evening we would have missed just for the sake of a few extra clothes. It must have been such an effort for the singers but it didn’t show and they gave us an encore. The penultimate week was an excellent evening. The weather was kind and the cellarium had already started to fill with people. Before the concert commenced the cellarium was absolutely packed. We were not to be disappointed with the choir. The Elland Male Voice Choir absolutely wowed the audience and a very enjoyable evening was had by all. Just a passing thought here, I wonder why the choirs do not attract more of the younger people. I am sure there are lots of good voices around, but perhaps television and the like take precedence? Now for the final concert. What an evening. Such wonderful singing from the Saddleworth Male Voice Choir. I am sure the monks must have all been awake to listen!! From “It’s a Grand Night for Singing”, “African Trilogy” to “Let There Be Peace on Earth” the audience was absolutely enthralled. The whole season has been excellent and next year is looked forward to in anticipation!! Appreciation to all the choirs who have so delighted a full cellarium each week. Full Article Archived News View All...
