IN THE SWING

Herriot centre staff are getting in the swing for a special tea dance being held next month. As part of the 2008 Herriot Convention a 1940s dance complete with period style food, drink and music is being staged for the delegates.   And it’s hoped that local people will come along and join in the fun.Thirsk Town Hall will resound to the music of the Frank Brooker Quartet on the 2nd Saturday in October – jazz, swing, latin and Glenn Miller sounds will combine with some popular sing-a-long tunes.   “We wanted to make this convention a little different for the delegates so came up with a period dance,” said The World of James Herriot Manager, Alison Scurrah.“But anyone in the area is welcome to come along too for the price of a ticket.  The bunting and flags will be going up and we will all be in period dress.  There will be 40s food, drink and music to give it a real wartime feel.”
