Picnic in the Park at Thirsk Hall

Headline act Desperado a tribute to The Eagles and ex pop idol star, Chris Tame entertained a crowd of  around 800 charity concert goers, who enjoyed the Picnic in the Park at Thirsk Hall in aid of Action Medical Research.Charity fundraisers for Action Medical Research Sue Calvert, and Jane Burgess had a keen eye on the weather, but were lucky as there were brief showers at the start of the evening but it remained mostly dry, with clouds providing a dramatic backdrop to the wonderful setting of the park at Thirsk Hall.  Owner of Thirsk Hall John Bell and partner Mandy Metcalfe were delighted to play host to the charity concert, which is set to become an annual event in Thirsk.  Action Medical Research is one of the country’s leading medical charities and has been making medical breakthroughs that have helped people in the UK for over fifty years.Alex Cann of Minster Northallerton FM introduced Chris Tame onto the stage who entertained the large crowd before the band Desperado played.  Featuring Glen Mason lead vocals and drums; Chris Brighton lead vocals and guitars; Dave Thompson lead vocals and guitars; Frank Beach keys and vocals; Rod Wigley bass and vocals; Nick Mellor guitars their sound combined to produce an impressive tribute to The Eagles, with great harmony with expert musical accompaniment.  All the Eagles favourites such as Hotel California, Take it Easy, Lyin’ Eyes, Desperado and Tequila Sunrise plus many more were enjoyed by everyone, and many danced the night away.  There was a spectacular and very loud firework display to end this successful event. The raffle and ticket sales raised £10,000  with a donation  to Thirsk Rotary Club, who organized the car parking during the evening.  Jane and Sue would like to acknowledge John Bell and Mandy Metcalfe, Rotary Club members, the raffle ticket sellers and Steve Williams of Viking Light and Sound, and everyone for supporting the event.  The intrepid team are already planning next years event and continue with their fund raising work for Action Medical Research.
