QUEEN MARY'S SCHOOL ECO-FRIENDLY CHARITY FASHION SHOW
Pupils at a leading North Yorkshire independent school searched the charity shops and raided their parents’ wardrobes to stage a fashion show with a difference. Girls at Queen Mary’s School at Baldersby Park, Thirsk, held a re-cycled clothing fashion show this week (12 November) and raised £525 for three different causes. This is the first time they had organised their own show, and used garments sourced from Oxfam in Boroughbridge and outfits given by their parents.Robert McKenzie Johnston, Headmaster said: “The girls have thoroughly enjoyed organising the fashion show and apart from having great fun, they have learnt a good deal about what is involved in putting a successful event together. “The benefits to the girls range from improving their team working abilities to expressing creativity in the styling of the clothes, to learning first hand the value of good organisational skills. I am also delighted that they are selfless enough to want to stage something which directly benefits others.”All the clothing, which ranges from designer one-off items to high-street fashion, was auctioned at the end of the show to raise money for Oxfam, Martin House Hospice at Boston Spa and The Jolly Mercy School in Uganda.Around 60 pupils from the school took part in the event.
