Rotary - 'Thanks for Life'
Rotary - 'Thanks for Life' is a project involving all the 1,850 clubs and members of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland to highlight the humanitarian work of Rotarians which is currently focused on the aim of helping to eradicate polio throughout the world. Rotary Day on February 23rd was part of a week long period of activity from 19th to 26th February to maximise public awareness of Rotary and raise funds specifically for Polio eradication.Thirsk Rotary club took a stall space on Saturday 26th in the town's market place selling donated items including home made cakes, preserves and jams plus an interesting array of unwanted Christmas presents and some quality bric a brac items,non alcoholic ginger wine and home made marmalade being very popular. The day raised the wonderful total of £428 from sales and cash donations which with the proceeds from club night raffles will realise over £500 The event was organised by Thirsk Rotary's Foundation Committee chaired by Gordon Ellis who expressed appreciation to his committee members for their sterling effort to make the event such a success and he voiced particular gratitude to the wonderful people of Thirsk and surrounding villages for their support of Thirsk Rotary club and their help to rid the world of Polio.
