SELLING CRIME CUTTING TO CUSTOMERS
A new scheme to cut down on shop crime is selling its work to its customers!‘Business Against Crime in Hambleton’ (BACH) - which replaced the Shopwatch scheme – is joining Northallerton market traders this Saturday (October 25) to explain its role in the town and to hand out free lanyards designed to prevent purse thefts.“Almost everyone that goes into the shops in Northallerton are genuine honest customers,” said BACH Co-ordinator David Tucker pictured with the new logo and lanyards. “But there are a few people who come to steal and commit fraud - we aim to stop them.“Many people think that the only losers are the shops, but customers who pay for goods lose out as well. Theft and fraud puts up the costs of running the business, and businesses either have to pass that on or go bust.”Through BACH, retailers are working together to achieve three things: deterrence – persuading anyone thinking of theft or fraud not to try itdetection – using all those means of spotting and catching criminals protection of shop owners and staff from violence and abuse. All stores are displaying the group’s new logo, designed by Northallerton College graphics student Matthew Brooksbank.BACH has the backing of Hambleton Community Safety Partnership and the Northallerton Community Plan Forum and works closely with North Yorkshire Police.
