Small Shop of the Year
Some great news for staff at White Rose Books, Thirsk who were delighted to find themselves nominated for Small Shop of the Year award. The news came out of the blue as local MP for the Vale of York, Anne McIntosh asked if they would be happy to be nominated. The competition is run by the All Party Parliamentary Small Shops Group and is judged on a number of criteria. These include product, family history, investment and originality with the winners to be chosen by an independent member of standing in the business community. Sue Lake, owner commented ‘Simply to be nominated is a fantastic recognition of the hard work all the staff put in every day, I’m absolutely delighted.’ The bookshop employs 10 staff throughout the week and was established in 1995. The first event of the year is a book launch and author signing, of ‘Thirsk and Sowerby Through Time’ next Saturday. ‘Thirsk and Sowerby Through Time’ by Cooper Harding (Honorary Curator of Thirsk Museum) is the third book in a series based on early photographs from a collection at Thirsk Museum. The theme is ‘Then and Now’, with modern colour photographs showing views and activities featured in old postcards and prints. It provides a unique insight into the illustrious history of this part of Yorkshire. At the book launch Cooper Harding will give a brief talk, and there will be a display of archive photography in the coffee bar in the bookshop. Full Article Archived News View All...
