Sowerby Concert
‘Lynne Dawson and Friends’ will be a brilliant opening concert for Sowerby Music’s 21st Birthday Season in St Oswald’s Church on the third Saturday in September.Apart from saying that her co-singers would be two exalted mystery guests from the world of opera, Lynne Dawson has, until now, kept their identities a closely guarded secret. She now reveals them as Louise Winter – a spectacular mezzo-soprano - who has sung everything from Handel to Wagner from Glyndebourne and the Royal Opera House to Frankfurt and who has performed under the direction of Rattle, Elder and Mackerras. Her second guest is Paul Nilon, one of England’s great tenors, who has just been critically acclaimed in the title role of La Clemenza di Tito at English National Opera and for productions at Opera North and Welsh National Opera. Abroad he has sung principal roles in opera houses as far apart as Munich and San Francisco. Concerts with The Age of Enlightenment, the Philharmonia and the Hallé augment Paul Nilon’s outstanding career.Lynne Dawson is well known to Yorkshire music lovers as one of Britain’s most versatile and popular sopranos. She lives in Tollerton and is a Vice President of Sowerby Music. Her distinguished career includes principal operatic roles in major opera houses around the world including Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Berlin, Chicago and New York and concerts under the direction of the world’s greatest conductors including Mehta and Barenboim.Completing the line up is Benjamin Powell, a young pianist based in Manchester who is equally at home as a concerto soloist, a chamber musician or as an accompanist. These three world class singers will present a widely varied programme of solos, duets and ensembles that will have something for everybody. These are likely to include music from Schubert, Schumann, Bernstein, Novello, Bizet, Mozart and Monteverdi.Sowerby Music are immensely privileged to have all these three great artists under one roof singing together in a concert that would be the envy of any major concert hall Full Article Archived News View All...
