The Dynamic Donor!
A blood donor from North Yorkshire is enjoying a milestone by celebrating a lifetime of donation.Norman Southern 63, from Thirsk, celebrated 75 blood donations at a recent National Blood Service (NBS) award ceremony at the Thorpe Park Hotel in Leeds.The awards were presented by Mark Wishart. Mark’s daughter Robyn was involved in a serious car crash in 2006, in which sadly her boyfriend was killed. Robyn was taken by air ambulance to a Middlesbrough hospital and needed 30 units of blood. She has since recovered and Mark is extremely grateful to donors.Norman, a retired joiner, has been giving blood for 34 years and said that it was the caring and friendly staff that kept him going, not to mention the tea and biscuits! Sheena Simpson communications officer for NBS in Yorkshire and North East said:“This is an amazing milestone, with only 4% of the population coming forward to give blood, donors like Norman are very important to us.
