THIRSK HOCKEY CONTINUE WITH GOOD RESULTS

The men’s 2nds were at home against Halifax 3rds a team just above them in division 8. Despite Thirsk having a strong squad of 15 players to choose from, it was Halifax who were able to find the net with a strong reverse stick shot after only five minutes play. The game then proceeded to speed up and both teams had chances with some strong passing and running. Despite the chances it was Halifax who scored again and Thirsk were not achieving a result that they expected. However, further pressure produced a short corner for Thirsk just as the first half was ending and the resulting lifted sweep by Ian Foxley slotted into the net wide of the keeper. The second half saw the subs brought on and after the half time talk the team seemed to get its head together and pressured Halifax on a constant basis. The result a great goal on the reverse stick by Robert Ramsden and another short corner converted by Ian Foxley with a cracking shot in under the keeper and Thirsk were ahead. Halifax then decided to push forward more and despite strong defence by Thirsk, a short corner was awarded. The goal that came was bundled in and so with only a few minutes to go the game was back to all square. Thirsk were still pressing forward when the final whistle went and so a 3-3 draw left the two teams even and Thirsk remain third in the division. Also congratulations to Dick Edwards who was watched during this game and has achieved his umpiring level 1.
