Thirsk Rotary News
NewsThirsk Rotary played host to Kathryn Almond from the Complementary Therapy service – who explained the benefits of the service in relieving cancer sufferers from anxiety and stress as they pursue courses of treatment at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. The team run a practice at South Tees along the same lines and rely entirely on voluntary donations to support the two staff and the treatment costs. The NHS provide rooms and support but there is a constant need to raise funds to maintain the Complementary Therapy service which has now been running 12 years. Kathryn Almond (pictured on the left with Gillie Gill. President of Thirsk Rotary Club) explained the treatment options available, which include acupuncture and massage, and the benefits they bring to cancer sufferers. By far the biggest users are breast cancer patients, but a full range of the Friarage patients have found the treatments worthwhile. Kathryn showed how they had studied outcomes which demonstrated much reduced anxiety pre and post treatment for sufferers. Those wishing to know more about Complementary medicine and its impact can visit the website. Many of the referrals are by Macmillan nurses and the North Yorkshire community is fortunately well served in this respect. Rotary members were very interested in the talk and donated £150 in support of the service. Full Article Archived News View All...
