Thirsk School Race Winner
A Thirsk student took top honours in a prestigious cycling event held as part of the Tour of Britain.Jack Thompson from Thirsk School won the under 16s mountain bike race which was held as a curtain raiser for the Tour of Britain stage which finished in Dalby Forest.He competed as part of a 16 strong team from Hambleton – finishing a full 30 seconds ahead of riders from Harrogate and Selby.Organised by North Yorkshire Sport young people from across the county and York competed in the region’s first mountain bike races for both the under 16s and under 14s.•Fifteen-year-old Jack is pictured with his Hambleton team mates and Chairman of North Yorkshire Sport and Hambleton District Council’s Head of Service for Health, Dave Goodwin.
